Common Misconceptions about Yoga

Nowadays, you’ll basically see or hear about yoga just about anywhere. Chances are that you might even know someone who does it. However, it is yoga’s popularity in today’s society that also makes it ripe for misconceptions you’re better off not believing.
It’s A Religion – It’s not, if you take into account what you may think you know about religious conventions. Avid practitioners may consider it a religion, but not in those terms. Yoga is perfectly accessible for anyone of any religious affiliation—all you need to practice it is the dedication to continue doing so.
It’s Strictly for Specific People – You’ve likely heard yourself or others complain about “not being able to do yoga,” because you aren’t flexible enough, at an optimal body weight, or age bracket. In truth, these factors shouldn’t hinder you from taking up yoga, and in fact are the very reasons why you should do it. With regular practice, you can become flexible, weight loss is facilitated, and you can feel much stronger and even look years younger. Just have patience and an open mind.
It’s Easy – Turning conventions on its end, you might also think that yoga’s “too easy,” and that you’re better off doing more “hardcore” training like bench presses. It’s not. Yoga alone has different types of practices, each focusing on various key competencies like strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance. If you’re not prepared, you may find yourself huffing, puffing, and in a bit of pain after a session.
