A Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica Can Bring A Person Long-Term Relaxation

If you are looking for ways to de-stress or relax, yoga should be at the very top of your list. Just a single yoga session can take a load off of your mind and ease tension, but visiting a Costa Rica yoga spa can work wonders for your stress levels in the long run.

Here is a bit about why.

A Long-Term Practice Changes You from Inside Out

Yoga spas and retreats focus on long-term health by offering you multiple sessions of yoga and a daily routine of relaxation. Many people who attend yoga retreats find that they continue their practice of it long after the retreat has ended.

Yoga has the power to change how you look at the world and how you react to what happens outside of your world. This happens through a shift in your attention, induced by yoga, from the flight-or-fight response to a responsive state of relaxation. A consistent yoga regimen can lower your heart rate, reduce high blood pressure, and lower your anxiety levels. Read more from this blog. http://bit.ly/2jPsfB2

Benefits of Flexibility Gained Through Doing Yoga

Most people that practice yoga know that one of the benefits it offers is increased flexibility. While this is true, not everyone understands why increased flexibility is important. Here are some ways that improving your flexibility benefits you.

Flexibility Prevents Injuries

Flexibility allows people to have a wider range of movement, and it’s been proven that this ability to move unimpeded decreases the amount of injuries a person may have. Generally speaking, when our muscles and joints are more pliable, breaks and tears are much less likely to happen. The flexibility improvement that yoga offers decreases injuries in people on a daily basis and is especially useful for athletes or people whose job requires physical exertion.

Three Great Yoga Poses for the Outdoors

There’s nothing quite like practicing yoga in the great outdoors, especially in exotic locations like Costa Rica. Yoga poses are often associated with different elements of nature, so it would only make sense to take up poses that would help you be more grounded and connect with the earth. The following poses will help you clear up space within your mind and body while you’re on your yoga retreat.

Half Moon Pose

The Half Moon Pose is a great way to stretch the body. Once in position, an arm and a leg is rooted down to the earth while the other leg and arm are lifted and extended out. This pose is best achieved transitioning from the Standing Split. Hold the Half Moon pose for at least five deep breaths and then rise up in Tadasana. Repeat this for each side as you see fit.

Tree Pose

The Tree Pose is another great yoga pose for the outdoors, especially for beginners. Starting from Mountain Pose, you only have to bend your right knee, place your foot on your left thigh and raise both arms overhead. Hold that pose as you take deep breaths and try to find your balance before bringing both arms and feet down to rest. Then, repeat it on the other side.

High Crescent Lunge

The High Crescent Lunge does a great job of engaging the muscles of your thighs and the torso. With the front foot planted down on the ground and the back foot stretched back, raise up your arms and interlace your thumbs together.

Pranayama: Breathing to Relieve Stress

The first and last thing that we do in our lives is to take a breath, yet it’s an action that’s often taken for granted. Not everyone knows, however, that the mind, body, and breath are intimately connected. The way we breathe is influenced by our thoughts, while our thoughts and physiology is influenced by our breath.

This is why learning how to breathe consciously, through a practice known as pranayama, can help in restoring the balance in your mind and body.

What happens when you’re stressed?

When you feel stressed, your sympathetic nervous system tends to trigger your body’s fight-or-flight response. Since you’re given a burst of energy as a way to react to the perceived danger, your breaths become shallow and rapid. You breathe through your chest. Thus, you often feel short of breath.

It doesn’t help that your body produces a surge of hormones that increases your blood pressure and pulse rate.

Taking a deep breath

Most of the time, calming yourself from these stressful thoughts begins by breathing deeply. As you take a deep breath, all these negative symptoms are reversed instantly. Your mind and body becomes calm, and your heart rate and blood pressure slows down into a calm pace.

To make the most out of these calming benefits of pranayama, why not go to a yoga spa and set yourself away from all the things that cause stress?
